Building for a Growing Community
A sportscenter expansion was the next step to support the Crossroads YMCA’s growing membership, athletic programs and community events. As participation continued to increase, the organization needed a new 92,212-square-foot facility that would expand the existing campus. Which provides flexibility to serve athletes, families, leagues, and community programs. The YMCA trusted Tonn and Blank to deliver YMCA Sportscenter at Crown Point. This continues a long-standing partnership which includes:
Along with many other projects, this history gave the owner a trusted construction partner that understands how YMCA facilities operate, grow, and serve their communities.
Planning Around Indiana Weather
Constructing a building of this size required careful coordination between design partners, specialty trades, and the owner’s civil engineer. The schedule also depended on major concrete placements, structural steel, precast installation, and roofing. This work continued despite unpredictable Indiana weather.
One of the project’s biggest milestones was placing over 3,000 cubic yards of concrete. Check out the video below to see the concrete in action. Self-performing key work like this means we controlled the details that mattered most.
The team then installed structural steel, precast wall panels, and the roof right after. To avoid weather delays that could slow other trades, the team kept adjusting the schedule. This helped interior crews stay productive as more areas became enclosed. That proactive planning helped keep the project moving toward its year-end completion.
