Breaking Ground on a New Medical Campus

The School of Osteopathic Medicine is taking shape in Crown Point, Indiana, as Tonn and Blank Construction begins work on the new Franciscan Alliance medical education campus. Located on a 100-acre campus near Franciscan Health Crown Point at Interstate 65 and U.S. 231, the facility will support medical education and physician training. Franciscan expects to welcome its first class of 100 medical students in 2030.

Planning for Medical Education

The project supports Franciscan Alliance’s plans to expand medical education and strengthen Indiana’s healthcare workforce. Enrollment will grow annually, with a goal of reaching 800 students. Franciscan also plans to expand postgraduate residency opportunities across Indiana, creating additional pathways for physicians to continue their training and begin their careers within the state.

The new campus will serve students, faculty, and staff as the program grows. Its location near Franciscan Health Crown Point also connects medical education with an established healthcare environment. This connection can support learning and collaboration as future physicians develop the knowledge and experience they need to care for patients.

Building for Healthcare and Education

Medical school construction requires careful coordination between educational needs and the technical demands of a complex facility. Tonn and Blank brings extensive healthcare construction experience to the project, working closely with Franciscan Alliance and the design team throughout planning and construction.

Our team will coordinate site development, building systems, materials, and construction activities with the facility’s intended use. Early planning will help address project requirements, maintain quality, and keep construction moving toward Franciscan’s planned opening in 2030.

Building for What Comes Next

The groundbreaking marks an important step for Crown Point and Indiana’s healthcare workforce. As construction progresses, Tonn and Blank will focus on delivering a facility that supports the people who will use it every day. Students will learn in the new campus, faculty will guide their education, and staff will support the school’s operations.

The completed School of Osteopathic Medicine will provide Franciscan Alliance with a purpose-built environment for medical education and future growth. For Tonn and Blank, the project continues our work in healthcare construction while contributing to a new educational resource for Crown Point and the surrounding region.
