As Construction Manager, Tonn and Blank led the delivery of the YMCA Sportscenter at Crown Point, a 92,000-square-foot facility whose concrete scope has now earned Smith Ready Mix the Indiana Ready Mixed Concrete Association’s (IRMCA) Commercial Award.

The Sportscenter includes a 42,300-square-foot basketball and volleyball gym, a 34,874-square-foot pickleball gym, and a 20,000-square-foot common area with support spaces, all designed and engineered as part of a collaborative approach.

Tonn and Blank coordinated closely with the YMCA, design partners, engineers, and trade contractors to guide the project from early planning through active construction. From structural concrete and precast installation to roofing, utilities, and interior buildout, the team has focused on quality, coordination, and constructability to keep the complex progressing efficiently and safely.

One of the biggest challenges was constructing pickleball courts that meet tournament standards. These courts have to be extremely flat and durable to support competitive play. Through careful planning and coordination, our crew helped ensure the courts were built with the precision needed for both high performance and heavy daily use.

The IRMCA award recognizes projects that stand out for teamwork, craftsmanship, and smart construction practices. This recognition shows our focus on working with project partners. We aim to create spaces that will serve communities for many years. The YMCA Sportscenter in Crown Point now offers a modern space for sports, fitness, and community activities in Northwest Indiana.
